Mr Olufemi Akinyelure currently heads the Nigeria Electrification Programme (NEP), a $550 million initiative funded by the World Bank and AfDB, implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). The project seeks to bridge the energy access deficit by providing electricity to households, MSMEs, educational and healthcare facilities in unserved and underserved rural communities through the deployment of mini grids, Solar Home Systems (SHS), captive power plants and Productive Use of Energy (PUEs).
In addition to that, he will also play a pivotal role in leading the implementation of the landmark Nigeria Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-Up (DARES) project. This ambitious initiative, backed by a $750 million World Bank facility, aims to expand electricity access to over 17.5 million Nigerians.
Mr Akinyelure has over a decade of experience in data-driven infrastructure projects that have changed the infrastructure landscape in Nigeria. Previously, he was a Senior Specialist in Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development at the Nigeria Energy Transition Office (ETO) and a key member of the Project Management Office for the Presidential Power Initiative. He also served as Special Adviser on Sustainable Infrastructure to the Honourable Minister of Works and Housing. In this role, he oversaw significant infrastructure projects and innovative financing initiatives. He also played a key role in conceptualizing the Highway Development and Management Initiative and managing critical infrastructure projects, raising over N5 trillion for road infrastructure improvements..
